The newly opened short cut from San José to Escazú is closed for at least three months to add a sidewalk and stabilize embankments that began collapsing when the rains started.
One of the rainiest Augusts on record has caused transit problems across Costa Rica, but the landslides and collapses were so severe on the new radial from the south side of Parque Sabana in San José to Escazú that nearly 2 km of the road has been closed to construct barriers and reinforce the embankments.
Under orders of the Sala Constitucional, pedestrian walkways are also being added along the new route.
Closed August 13 to November 30, 2010
